January 2022

Welcome to 2022!!

Here we are into the start of a New Year already,…and fingers crossed this one is better than the last! Though overall, I think we’ve been pretty lucky over here in the West.

As we look ahead for the year, we should see a model replacement for the iMac 27” (to come with the M1 Pro and Max chips), a newly refreshed MacBook Air design later this year, iPhone 16 towards the later half of the year. And according to rumours we may see Apple release their AR/VR Headset - most likely towards the very end of the year (which at the moment seems a long way off!
So should be an exciting year ahead! Keep an eye out for any announcements.

And just for a bit of light reading if you’re interested -

January 7th marked the 20th anniversary since the iMac G4 was announced with it’s ground breaking “floating display”.

You can read about it here.

I still think it had one of the coolest ads for it too, which you can see here

January 9th marked 15 years since Apple announced the first iPhone and what a long way we’ve come since then.

You can read about it here.

Apple working on iOS 15.4 to add FaceID with a Mask (including accepting ApplePay)

Apple have just released to Beta testers iOS 15.4 and one of the features they’ll be adding to it is the ability to unlock your FaceID iPhone when you’re wearing a mask. Previously this feature required you to have an Apple Watch as well to “accept” this. Now this feature will work regardless if you have an Apple Watch or not. They’re also adding it so you can accept ApplePay on your device while wearing a mask. Before it would “fail” and want you to type in your PIN code to accept it. Once this update goes live you’ll then be able to use these features even while wearing your mask.
This will be a good update once it goes live to everyone. So keep an eye out for it.

You can read more about it here and here.

Dropbox have now released a version that natively works with the new Apple Silicon chips, so if owners of the new models with the M-series chips you can now head to Dropbox and download a newer version!

Be aware of “Fake webpages” advising you need to update.

So there is a bit of a rise on the number of webpages or fake links that will try to trick you into calling a number or clicking a link to “update” some piece of software.

I’ve written a page with a bit more info on it here
